Hi Tom, Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft forums. From the issue description, I understand that you are facing issues with connecting external USB floppy drive with your computer. I am really sorry for the inconvenience caused to you. Since you are getting an exclamation mark in Device Manager this issue is occurring due to the driver incompatibility of the external device with the new Technical preview Windows 10. You can resolve this issue by installing the driver of the device in compatibility mode.
Now, to install in Compatibility Mode, follow these steps: a. Locate the executable file (.exe file) for the driver installation program. Right-click the file, and then click Properties.
In the Package Name Properties dialog box, click the Compatibility tab. Click to select the Run this program in compatibility mode for check box, click Windows 8 with which it is compatible with in the Run this program in compatibility mode for list, and then click OK. Double-click the executable file to start the installation program. Hope this helps. Please post back with the status of the issue and we will be glad to assist you further. Thanks for the reply. There is some support for this device on Imation's web pages- According to the information provided there, USB support is built-in and no drivers are required for: Windows ME, 2000, XP, Vista and Windows 7.
Mac OS 9.0 and above. There is no 'installation program', as such. I had no problem using it on the same computer which now has Windows 10 technical preview. When it used Windows 7 or Windows 8 or Windows 8.1. When it was plugged in, the system recognized it and installed support. I thought of compatibility mode but don't know how you set it up when there is no visible.exe file. Tom Feeguson.
Thank you for your reply. You also replied Oct 3. Imation support informs me that they do not have a specific driver for Windows 10. I have removed Windows 10 preview and re-installed Windows 8.1. It was not necessary to install any drivers.
Later Oct 26th Device Manager reports that the device is working properly. Sfloppy.sys 6.3.9600.16184 is being used. Use, files are written and read properly. (as far as I can tell: No error messages or freezing or other symptoms of problems noted.) Tom Ferguson. Hi, One of my machines has a internal floppy controller that is listed as a Unknown Device with a yellow exclamation in Device Manager. There are no drivers for floppy controllers.
They have been part of Windows previously. Just wanted to let you know you're not alone with this issue.
The Following May help you, others in the Community have used it, and recover their Floppy disk drive using my step by step instructions. The 1st picture is for Win.10, 32 bit systems.
